MTPĀ®/MPO Array Cable
Pre-Terminated MTPĀ®/MPO Array Cable for 400G and 800G Data Center Links
Every array cable is factory-terminated and individually tested before shipment, so link loss is documented before installation rather than discovered during commissioning. Polarity is specified at order ā Type A, B, C or customized ā and the same cabling architecture carries you from 10G through 800G without re-pulling fiber.

MTPĀ®/MPO Insertion Loss and Return Loss Grades
Maximum insertion loss per MTPĀ®/MPO connector mating. Multimode BIMMF OM3/OM4/OM5 assemblies are rated at 0.50 dB (Standard Loss), 0.35 dB (Low Loss) and 0.25 dB (Ultra Low Loss). Single-mode OS2 G.657.A assemblies are rated at 0.75 dB (Standard Loss), 0.35 dB (Low Loss) and 0.25 dB (Ultra Low Loss). Return loss is specified per grade in the same table.
| Grade / Fiber Type | Standard Loss | Low Loss | Ultra Low Loss |
|---|---|---|---|
| Insertion loss ā BIMMF OM3 / OM4 / OM5 (Multimode) | ≤ 0.50 dB | ≤ 0.35 dB | ≤ 0.25 dB |

| Return loss ā BIMMF OM3 / OM4 / OM5 (Multimode) | ≥ 20 dB | ≥ 25 dB | ≥ 25 dB |
| Return loss ā SM OS2 G.657.A (Single-mode) | ≥ 60 dB | ≥ 60 dB | ≥ 60 dB |
Which Configuration for Which Application
The table below maps the parallel-optics Ethernet interfaces to the fiber count, connector interface and polarity they require. Standard channel reach is given for OM3 and OM4; OM5 performs equal to or better than OM4 at 850 nm.
| Ethernet Interface | Typical Transceiver | Fiber Type | Active Fibers | Connector Interface | Polarity / Lane Mapping | Standard Channel Reach |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 40GBASE-SR4 | QSFP+ | OM3 / OM4 / OM5 | 8 | MPO-12, 8 positions populated | Type B commonly used; confirm system architecture | OM3: 100 m OM4 / OM5: 150 m |
| 100GBASE-SR4 | QSFP28 | OM3 / OM4 / OM5 | 8 | MPO-12, 8 positions populated | Type B commonly used; confirm system architecture | OM3: 70 m OM4 / OM5: 100 m |
| 400GBASE-SR8 | QSFP-DD / OSFP | OM3 / OM4 / OM5 | 16 | MPO-16, or 2 × MPO-12, or MPO-24 with 16 positions populated; APC or UPC per transceiver | Confirm MDI and lane mapping | OM3: 70 m OM4: 100 m (OM5 equal or better) |
| 800GBASE-SR8 | OSFP / QSFP-DD | OM3 / OM4 / OM5 | 16 | MPO-16 APC, 2 × MPO-12, or MPO-24 UPC, depending on transceiver | Confirm MDI and lane mapping | OM3: 60 m OM4: 100 m (OM5 equal or better) |
24F and 32F assemblies are used primarily for high-density trunk and backbone cabling. Direct connection to a transceiver is a specific application, seen in less common parallel-optics standards such as 100GBASE-SR10 and 400GBASE-SR16. For any configuration not listed, confirm compatibility against the transceiver interface, fiber count and link-loss budget with our engineering team.
