MTP®/MPO Trunk Cable
Pre-Terminated MTP®/MPO and LC Trunk Cable, 8 to 144 Fibers, for Data Center Backbone Links
MTP®/MPO trunk cables deploy a high-density permanent link in a single factory-terminated assembly — 8 to 144 fibers between two distribution areas, with MTP®/MPO or LC on each end. Staggered breakout legs are cut to your rack layout, polarity is specified at order (Type A, B or C), and every assembly is terminated and tested before shipment, so the backbone goes in without field splicing.

Note
- Fiber Compatibility: OM3, OM4, OM5 (BIMMF) and OS2 G.657.A
Which Pre-Terminated Assembly Do You Need?
Trunk, array and harness assemblies are built from the same MTP®/MPO connectivity but play different roles in the link. Choose by what sits at each end.
| Assembly | End A | End B | Typical role |
|---|---|---|---|
| MTP®/MPO Trunk Cable (this page) | Multiple MTP®/MPO or LC legs | Multiple MTP®/MPO or LC legs | Permanent backbone between two distribution areas, up to 144 fibers in one cable |
| MTP®/MPO Array Cable | One MTP®/MPO | One MTP®/MPO | Single 12F to 32F link, including direct transceiver connection |
| MTP®/MPO to LC / SC Harness | One MTP®/MPO | LC or SC legs | Breakout from a parallel link to duplex equipment ports |
MTP®/MPO Insertion Loss and Return Loss Grades
Maximum insertion loss per MTP®/MPO connector mating, with the minimum return loss for each grade.
| Grade / Fiber Type | Standard Loss | Low Loss |
|---|---|---|
| Insertion loss — BIMMF OM3 / OM4 / OM5 (Multimode) | ≤ 0.50 dB | ≤ 0.35 dB |
| Insertion loss — SM OS2 G.657.A (Single-mode) | ≤ 0.75 dB | ≤ 0.35 dB |
| Return loss — BIMMF OM3 / OM4 / OM5 (Multimode) | ≥ 20 dB | ≥ 20 dB |
| Return loss — SM OS2 G.657.A (Single-mode) | ≥ 60 dB | ≥ 60 dB |
LC Insertion Loss and Return Loss Grades
For trunk cables terminated with LC connectors on one or both ends.
| Grade / Fiber Type | Standard Loss | Low Loss |
|---|---|---|
| Insertion loss — BIMMF OM3 / OM4 / OM5 (Multimode) | ≤ 0.30 dB | ≤ 0.15 dB |
| Insertion loss — SM OS2 G.657.A (Single-mode) | ≤ 0.20 dB | ≤ 0.15 dB |
| Return loss — BIMMF OM3 / OM4 / OM5 (Multimode) | ≥ 35 dB | ≥ 35 dB |
| Return loss — SM OS2 G.657.A (Single-mode) | ≥ 55 dB | ≥ 55 dB |
These are EXW product grades. ANSI/TIA-568.3-E Annex A sets a maximum of 0.75 dB insertion loss per mated connector pair, applying the same limit to MPO array connectors and single-fiber connectors.
How to Order an MTP®/MPO Trunk Cable
Each trunk cable is built to order. Specify the following when requesting a quotation so the assembly arrives ready to install without field adaptation.
| Step | Parameter | Options |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Total fiber count | 8 / 12 / 24 / 36 / 48 / 60 / 72 / 84 / 96 / 108 / 120 / 132 / 144 |
| 2 | Fiber mode | Single mode: OS2 G.657.A (yellow). Multimode: OM3 (aqua), OM4 (violet), OM5 (lime green). |
| 3 | Connector on each end | MTP®/MPO (US Conec MTP® or MPO-compatible; male or female) or LC |
| 4 | Polarity | Type A / Type B / Type C / Customized |
| 5 | Performance grade | Standard Loss / Low Loss |
| 6 | Breakout leg lengths | Staggered lengths per end, to match your panel or cassette layout |
| 7 | Overall length | Feet / Meters |
